Eco Tour FAQs
What makes this an 'eco' tour?
Our eco tour emphasizes minimal environmental impact and education. We follow whale and wildlife viewing guidelines, maintain safe distances, never chase animals, and share information about marine conservation. We want you to connect with nature while protecting it.
What's the difference between the eco tour and regular wildlife tour?
Both tours visit similar areas and see the same wildlife. The eco tour includes more educational content about the marine ecosystem, conservation efforts, and the species we encounter. It's ideal for those who want to learn as they explore.
Will I definitely see whales?
Wildlife is wild, so sightings are never guaranteed. However, orcas and humpback whales are regularly seen in Campbell River waters, especially from May through October. Even without whales, you'll see sea lions, seals, eagles, and other marine life.
Is this tour good for kids?
Yes! Kids love spotting wildlife, and the educational aspect is engaging for curious young minds. We recommend this tour for children ages 6 and up. Younger children may do better on shorter tours.
What camera gear should I bring?
A camera with at least 200mm zoom lens is ideal for wildlife photography. Smartphones can work for closer subjects like sea lions. Bring extra batteries as cold ocean air drains them faster. We'll help position the boat for the best photo angles.
How close do we get to the wildlife?
We follow BC's Be Whale Wise guidelines, maintaining at least 100 metres from whales and 50 metres from other marine mammals. With binoculars and zoom lenses, you'll still get amazing views while keeping the animals comfortable and undisturbed.
